Honorable A J Jelani, Founder of “Peace on the Streets,” a statewide youth development program offering alternatives to violence. He started “Christmas on the Street” when he saw so many fatherless children in his neighborhood. In 1994 after 3 days of rioting, he organized over 200 youth to sing on a CD to pay tribute to a teen shot by police.
Christmas On The Streets started in 1993 – Richmond ca. – is a Toy giveaway basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, dolls, puzzles, all kinds of toys. First the kids line up for photo with Santa Claus and given a free gift ticket. Mom and Papa or welcome in the photo. They decorate the (6) Christmas trees lined in the streets and write chalk on the streets, play basketball, Astro Jumper, eat and drink, popcorn soda, water, hot dogs, and Train Rides, presents distributed.
Christmas on the streets is always in December the Saturday before Christmas Day. It never rained us out in 25yrs of project.
Purpose was to share love with the community and inspiration as we can attitude and served as and outlet for those interested in a better community. Together we stand. And with the Lord all things are possible. For his goodness and mercy endorses forever.
